Meet the Teacher

So, who am I?

I am a mother.  I have three amazing sons.  Khalil, or Kal, as we call him, is 7.  He is my scientist and my reader, my emotional, honest one.  Zaiyd is 3 1/2.  He is my loudmouth explorer and he is my sensitive, sly one.  Samir, or Sam, is my newest addition.  He was just born this March and we are still exploring who he is.

I am a wife.  My husband, Khalil, who I call by our last name, Raki, is my rock.  He is my partner, and my best friend.  He is from Morocco, which is why we are moving there.  After 10 years of contemplating what he wants from life, he has decided to use his M.D. degree, which can be done most easily in Morocco.

I am a teacher.  For the past two years, I have taught Technology Skills and Writing at Harmony Leland Elementary School.  Before that, I taught Third Grade at the same school for four years.  Next year, I will teach first grade at a school called The American Academy of Casablanca.  As a teacher, I focus on project based, differentiated, brain based learning.

I am a curriculum designer.  All teachers create resources, but as a teacher, this has always been a strength of mine.  After enough colleagues asked me for copies of my resources, I decided to do my Master’s in Curriculum and Instructional Design.  This has helped me grow as a teacher and as a designer.  All of my resources are now for sale on the website: http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Store/Heidi-Raki.  I will also be sharing random resources here on this blog.

When I get to Morocco, I will still be a mother, a wife, a teacher and a curriculum designer.  However, I will also be a language learner, an explorer of new sights and sounds, a person learning how to live in a new culture.  I am excited.       I am nervous. I am up for the challenge.
